How do we work on a daily basis?

How do we contribute to the activities of the CosmoPolitical Cooperative on a daily basis?

Our contribution to the Cooperative's work can take two forms:

  • the realisation of ideas, initiatives and projects by members of our Community*;
  • support for internal operations.

Work on ideas, initiatives and projects is carried out in three stages:

  1. a time for reflection, dialogue and development of ideas for action, open to all members of our Community, on our workspace;
  2. a time of convergence and decision-making to commit the Cooperative's shared resources, when necessary for the realisation of the action, on our platform of deliberative democracy, open only to Cooperators°;
  3. a time for the implementation of the collective project supported by the entire Cooperative.

Open development of ideas for action on our workspace

Our workspace is open to all members of our Community: Ordinary Members and Cooperators.

Here is how we participate:

  • There, we follow the initiatives of other members of the Community and share our own ideas for action. Initiatives and ideas for action are organised by theme (e.g. food, the international dimension of social justice, mobility), geographical location or economic sector.
  • When we like an initiative and want to contribute to it, or if our own initiative has brought together other members, we join or create a team dedicated to this idea for action. One member takes on the role of "contact person" for the team.
  • The team then works collaboratively, using the workspace tools (shared documents, calendar, instant messaging, task sheets, surveys, etc.) to complete its project. Each week, the contact person describes the actions carried out by their team in a shared document.
  • The Community Coordinator compiles all the actions carried out by each team on a weekly basis and publishes them in our newsletter, in the "News from our teams" section.

Collaborative teamwork can result in:

  • concrete actions that the team carries out independently, or
  • an Action Proposal that its members make to the Cooperative, when its implementation requires mobilising resources beyond those of the team members.

In the latter case, the process moves on to the next phase.

The decision to commit the Cooperative's resources, on our platform of deliberative democracy

When the proposed action requires mobilising the Cooperative's resources, the documents describing the proposed action are transferred to the deliberative democracy platform corresponding to the relevant category of cooperative action among the four we have defined:

  • Cooperators' Project;
  • Sustainability action by an organisation or sector;
  • Entrepreneurial Prototype;
  • Public Policy

Access to our deliberative democracy platform is reserved exclusively for Cooperators. On this platform, the proposed action is amended and modified by a working group, which may be different from the initial team, using tools that enable conflicts and disagreements to be managed and democratically resolved:

  • The text is amended in the form of cycles, each of which takes the following form: (1) collection of amendments, (2) vote on amendments;
  • each amendment in a cycle is subject to a vote by the members of the working group;
  • ... until a document approved by the majority of the working group members is agreed upon.

Once adopted by the working group, the proposed action is put to a vote by all members of the Cooperative. If the vote is favourable, the Cooperative releases the resources necessary for its implementation.

The Action Proposals adopted by the Cooperative are published in our newsletter, in the "Our Action Decisions" section.

The implementation of collective projects led by the Cooperative

Once adopted by the Cooperative, the Action is carried out by a dedicated Project Team, often drawn from the Working Group that developed it, again in the workspace. As above, a contact person in the Project Team reports weekly to the Community Coordinator on the progress of the project.

The actions currently being carried out by the Cooperative are published in our newsletter, in the "Our actions" section.

Support for the Cooperative's internal processes

Support for the Cooperative's internal processes is open to all members of the Community. It is carried out in the workspace, in the area dedicated to them. The internal processes we are prioritising are:

  • internal and external communication, including transfer of knowledge;
  • information technology;
  • accounting and administration;
  • methodological support for the creation and management of a local team;
  • methodological support for the creation and management of a team dedicated to a company or sector;
  • the practice of Esperanto.

(*) Members of the Community are all persons registered on our platform.

(°) Cooperators are members of the Community whose identity has been verified, who have registered only once (in accordance with the democratic principle of "1 person = 1 vote"), who are citizens of the European Union having reached legal age, who have purchased at least one share in the Cooperative and who have paid their yearly contribution.
