Concrete advice for immediate action

Now that you know where your action can be most effective and efficient, in the short term, here are some suggestions of where you can act immediately, with minimal need to coordinate with others, towards social justice, environmental sustainability and pan-European democracy.

Towards social justice

  • Purchase clothes where the social conditions of work in the production process have been certified by an external audit, such as the very serious Fair Wear Foundation;
  • Become member of a trade union (choose an independent trade union, preferably one that is affiliated, with the European Trade Union Confederation), even if only to provide your financial support. The existence and strength of trade unions and of the collective bargaining depending on trade union strength are one of the main conditions needed to achieve social justice (see figure 4 in this article by the moderate right-wing European think-tank Bruegel).

Towards environmental sustainability

  • Download and use the Sustainable Diet Handbook yourself for your daily cooking;
  • Cook every week with a group of colleagues at work, in turns, one of the recipes shared weekly in the "Sustainable diet" newsletter;
  • When you invite friends at home, prepare one of the recipes of the Sustainable Diet Handbook, and explain why you did so;
  • Support the emergence of local tourism where you live, and hence indirectly mitigate long-distance tourism by plane, by becoming a Greeter in your place.

Towards pan-European democracy

Simply vote, systematically, at each and every public election. Extremist and anti-democratic forces thrive with abstentionism. Every vote counts!
